Amy Hughes

Amy is a painter, mixed media and textile artist.

She primarily uses acrylics to paint abstract floral pieces occasionally incorporating hand embroidery into her work.

After completing a degree in Graphic Design (with a focus on illustration), Amy spent 10 years working in marketing before swapping her office desk for a home studio in central Wallingford.

“I love using bright and bold colours and marks in my work. When I paint I follow a general rule of ‘considered not controlled’ which gives me the freedom to paint my chosen subject matter with a happy balance of intent and spontaneity.”

When Amy is not painting she can be found crocheting for her craft business (The Violet Makery), designing amigurumi patterns and embroidering on vintage postcards.
